One of each I'd say. Similar to when Chelsea had Kante and Matic in their title winning year.

So you could have Carvalho sat alongside someone like Seri or Hector Herrera from the players we've been linked to in that role. Our midfield options vary from average to absolute dross, I think we need at least two signings in this area.

Re: William Carvalho
Player valuations are weird. They are really based on who's buying and how much money they have in their pocket.

A mid table spanish side cant afford what a mid table english side can pay. So a transfer from Lisbon to Getafe will be a modest sum for most players.

But the minute a big european team is looking for a player then the valuation bumps up accordingly. Juventus and Inter can pay 30m if they really want someone so that ups Mario by 10-15m, just because they like him.

Everyone knows english teams have money. And a mid table english team can compete with most top 6 sides in any league for wages/transfer fee. So again, West Ham are asked to pay that type of money.

Ultimately I think the club gets it wrong. What someone is worth to US is different to what they may be worth on the market. We tend to go for players that are worth alot on the market as if they are assets. Instead of focussing on what our team needs and judging worth that way.

For me, 30 odd million for a decent DM at the begining of last season was worth it to US. Because we would have avoided relegation battles and put our club in a better position and ultimately recouped the 30m spend.

When Bale went for 80m no one thought it was worth it but for Madrid it was. And he has got them through important games. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Perhaps we should just discuss talent and whether they do the job for us rather than how much that costs to the club?

Arguably ... the Defensive midfield is the most important
part of SiR Pelle's team (spine)...

Requirements : Stamina, workrate and Pace...
i Think Noble would blitz him in a Dash.. ??

I liked what I saw of him.
Solid, composed, can pass a ball.
Obviously not a Kante type though.

Re: William Carvalho
From what I have seen World Cup and before, he is a stronger Song (when the latter tried) and that is a very good player.

But I think it is a valid question whether you want that type DM or a run-around all the time one. We want to have the ball and get it to creative players quickly; both can do it, but what fits the system we are supposedly building.

Re: William Carvalho
his crappy world cup might do us a favour and put a few people off.

we've been watching him long enough to not be swayed by the world cup. if you made decisions on this world cup you'd say no to most of the German and Spanish teams.

fancy signing Draxler? nah he was shit at the world cup.

"I suppose the same rule always applies, dont sign anyone based on their world cup exploits!"

Very true, we signed Enner, Pablo Barrera, Gary Breen and Javier Margas off the back of decent world cups. Think the only we signed this way who turned out to be alright was Reid.

I make you right you can’t solely judge a player on how he performs at the WC....but neither can you judge the fact he’s good because a club either have paid big money or a club value a player at a large fee. You only need to look at Mario who cost 30mil plus and from half a season with us I wouldn’t pay half of that for him.

Agreed - two things to ignore here. Firstly I don't rate players on International football. Secondly I try to ignore the polarised views you tend to see online - a player who isn't perfect isn't 'shit' either.

Re: William Carvalho
Lots of people havent peformed very well in this world cup. Most of the german team are shit if you based it on the world cup. Messi doesnt exactly look like a Ballon D'or winner either!

I suppose the same rule always applies, dont sign anyone based on their world cup exploits!

Carvahlo is not rated for 30+m Euro's because of his form in a 2 weeks in June every 4 years.
